Ok…Ok..I brought my child into this world…here is my short story. I too found a donor to help make this baby…he was a friend of a friend of a friend…dont know him at all…my friends helped me by finding a clean, safe donor who was healthy. I also trusted my friends judgements…When I was a young adult I attended a womens conference at a college one of the talks was on bringing a child into the world…I kept the information stored in my brain for a long time. When I was 34yrs old I realized that I was running out of time to have a child & I recalled what I had learned years ago so I did what I learned. My donor put his fresh donation in a steril babyfood jar. I kept it between my legs then I went into a drug store and asked for a measuring syringe to “give my baby medicine” they were nice and gave it to me. I then went home and drew the donation into the syringe. Then I inserted the syringe inside myself and squeezed the donation inside. I then raised my hips in the air with pillows and did not get up for severals hours…3-4 Yes it took on the first try. I also knew I was ovulating and ask for Gods will…I am a mom with a nine year old daughter…ask me questions if you need more help…Life is a miracle…what a gift…

Lesbian parenting is a difficult task – there are lots of resources out there to help you – but that’s because there are so many pitfalls to fall into. You really need to do a lot of homework before you embark on this major life journey.

Actually getting pregnant is only a small step of the journey. Many people do get lucky using the ‘DIY’ method that ReneeHTx describes (although I would buy the syringe before getting the sperm! Sperm has a very short shelf life once it leaves the body). However – it’s a really tricky business!
I would strongly advise you to first consult your doctor, gynecologist or someone at a family planning.planned parenthood centre. They can help you with things like working out when you’re ovulating, etc.
I would also recommend asking this man to have a sexual health check – even though you’re not actually having sex with him, you are still at full risk.
Any the DIY method is in fact very unreliable, you may find you need the help of a fertility centre, who will (in the first instance) do a much more efficient job. They clean and isolate the sperm, and can inject it much closer to your egg, giving you a much better chance of conceiving.

But, I must say, the urgency that you’re hoping to do this is a little worrying. Getting pregnant takes time, and becoming a parent isn’t something that can or should be rushed into! Take your time – sit on this decision for a while. Ask yourself every question a hundred times – am I ready for this? Is my relationship strong? Are we still in the honeymoon period? Can I trust this man? Am I financially secure enough yet to give my child the sort of life I’d like to? Do I have access to good support for gay parents? etc etc
If you’re worried about either you, your partner or the donor being unwilling to wait for you to be sure, then it’s not the right time/person.

And finally, if you are certain that this is the right time, you’re in the right place emotionally, physically, and financially – you need to draw up a legal contract with the donor AND with your partner. With a lawyer. Gay parenting leaves all the parents and donors very vulnerable, and you absolutely MUST get all these things legally dealt with BEFORE you get pregnant. For example, what does ‘not being in the child’s life’ mean to you? and what does it mean to him? Does he know that a verbal agreement to have no financial responsibility does not leave him in the clear? You could call on him for financial support at any time in the child’s life unless you sort this out ahead of time. Similarly, he could file for custody (full custody if he wanted) at any point, unless you have these things dealt with by a lawyer. Without legal intervention, your partner has absolutely no rights over the baby in the event of your separation or your death. And the issues don’t stop there!
If you’re thinking that a lawyer is too expensive, just google the cost of nappies!

This all sounds very negative – of course having a baby is a wonderful thing! And if you’re ready and you go for it – congratulations!
I guess I’m just trying to cover all the issues that you absolutely need to think through *first*.

Yikes! You should know that your girlfriend can only get pregnant with on of her eggs and a male SPERM. There is no such thing as a male “egg”.

There is a very VERY expensive and very experimental process that can possibly merge the genes from two different eggs to make a baby. So… it’s theoretically possible to have a baby with literally two moms and no dad… I don’t know if it’s possible *right now* – but if so, chances of success that the child will make it through the 9 months much less the years to follow is very low, especially since they haven’t perfected this method. And this would cost billions to do.

I’m sure you weren’t talking about that though. And there hasn’t been much talk about it in a few years so it’s probably a bust now anyway.

Anyway, I agree 100% with Camille’s comment. I knew about sperms and eggs when I was in middle school. Biology and Sex Ed. I think you should wait for a while before thinking about having a child again, then you should do tons of research. TONS of it. I have the impression that you’re 14 years old or younger. I would like to inform you that the insemination process is very expensive. I have 2 children from a previous marriage, but my partner and I would like to have a child of our own. We tried AI 2 times and decided to wait. It had no bearing on the cost of raising children, just on the fact that we didn’t want to continue to pay that kind of money for what straight couples get for free. We are curretly looking for a donor so we can do a home insemination and avoid the cost. FYI, we are more than capable of affording the child after it is born. I’ve had a child before and want another one. As before I want a girl but this time I want a baby lesbian. Choosing the sex of my last child was easy as I aborted twice until the scan showed I was carrying a girl.

Me and my partner are looking at having a child, we heard about the possibilities of doctors fertilising her egg and inserting it into me, we know this will cost a lot but it is something we are prepared to do as the child would be closer to the both of ours, has anyone heard of this or had any experiences of this? The other option is to go to a sperm bank and artificially inseminate, however if we were to go down this route are we able to put both of our names on the birth certificate? People still aren’t sure whether it’s biological, environmental, or some of both. My advice to you, love your daughter. Raise her to know that love is love, whether it’s between two women, two men, or one of each. And accept her whether she is a lesbian, bisexual, or straight.

My girlfriend and I haven’t been in a relationship for a long time but have been friends for longer. We were talking about having kids, but (like most studs) she doesn’t want any male participation. She doesn’t want a male to intervene in our family’s life. Don’t think I could ask a male friend close to us, any ideas on starting points or links on where to find willing males donors through payment.
So I know I’m asking for a lot of info, and any help would be greatly appreciated. In return to this thread I will post our progression and any new info we come across ?

It is not that easy. Artificial insemination is different to the normal insemination. Because in natural insemination the sperm is submitted to a natural selection process, so the best spermatozoon is the one tha reaches the price: the female egg. In artificial insemination all the sperm reaches the vagina and the egg in equal conditions, so any spermatozoon might reach the egg.

The natural selection process that occurs in the natural insemination way (that means, making love with a man)eliminates mostly all defective sperm. In artificial insemination, a lot of defective sperm might not be eliminated, so, as a consequence, you might have ill or abnormal children (e.g. squizofrenia, genetic malformations or disorders, etc).

So, I am not asking you to stop being lesbians. But if you want a child, better bring a man into the team, just for a while. And if you ask him to resignate to his parent rights, sure he will do it. MOst of men have to be forced to reconize his their children, so imagine if you say to a man: Have sex with two beautiful women, make us pregnant, and you won`t have to any consequence…)
