Can I Tell Just By Looking?
Hi. I am new here. I am 25 and have only been dating men in my life. But I am also always confused. I mean, I don’t really enjoy having sex with men, but I am not interested in the female body either. From time to time I am attracted to some women, maybe because of their look, or their personalities, or whatnot. I don’t know if I am just having a girl crush or what. I’ve been dating this boyfriend for a few years already and we’re pretty much settled down. I met a really cute girl at work like 6 months ago, but I didn’t get to know her a little more until recently, and this is driving me crazy.
She dresses like a boy, not like baggy clothes, but not like a girl at all. Not like a typical American girl. She is rough. She is the drummer in a band. She played soccer in HS. She played baseball occasionally. But on her MySpace page, she states that she is straight. I am really confused. What is she, do you think? Can’t we just tell the orientation by how a girl acts and by her appearance?
I don’t think I will get to know her any further because she is leaving. And I don’t think she’s interested in me either. It just left me wondering…

Well… in general, I can ‘tell’ if a girl is on my/our team not so much because of the way she looks, but more so how she acts and by the overal ‘vibe’. I think it is just one of those gut instinct reactions whereby if you’re in the community long enough you can just tell.
Saying that however, I have probably one of the most stereotypically ‘butch’ cousins and she is about as straight as an arrow…. I am also mistaken for being straight all the time. Hell you could be walking down the street and pass by a number of feminine lesbians and not know it because it is not all in the appearance, but how they act etc - those things you can only figure out by getting to know the person.
So while the above factors might help you know, you really can’t be sure unless they start talking about girls or if they tell you they are gay….
No, you can’t tell. You might get it right sometimes, but there are always exceptions. Sometimes more exceptions than not. There are no hard and fast rules.
As an aside, since you did mention it, have you considered that you’re asexual?
So I guess there’s no absolute formula huh…Oh well, still can’t believe/accept it…

For my ignorance, what do you mean by asexual? The only thing I can relate to asexual is hermaphrodite, and I don’t have a penis…

In this case, it sounds like the intent was to indicate that perhaps you haven’t considered that you have an absence of sexual attraction in either sex - a(without) sexual (definition 2).

hi everybody..i was randomly acrossed this page…just making comments..weird.,,as it is medically speaking, asexual does accurs in plants and lower class of animals which doesnt have(absent) any sex organs,, hermaphrodites those have 2 sex organ either one or both are functional..the latter can occur in humans…
but in britneysbeard’s case, she needs to try the both sexes..so she can tell which of the two makes her thrilled,, sex is not bad after all,
by the way, there are more , georgous women who are femmenish can be sometimes unexpectedly gay also, and sometimes they are more aggresive towards a woman?..you can never can tell with just one look.. looks could be deceiving…
